What we install outdoors is a textured, UV-stable system, usually a spray or knockdown texture finish sealed with an aliphatic topcoat that holds its color. The texture is what gives you grip and, because it breaks up the surface, it’s part of what keeps the deck cooler than a smooth slab.
How the work goes
Clean and prep
Pressure wash, then mechanically profile the surface. Any old flaking sealer or coating comes off. Pool decks get extra attention around the coping and the water line.
Repair
Cracks are filled with flexible material, spalled and pitted areas rebuilt, and low spots are levelled so water drains the way it should instead of pooling.
Texture coat
The texture goes on by spray or trowel depending on the finish you pick. This is the layer that gives grip and cuts surface heat.
Color and seal
Color goes in, then a UV-stable topcoat over everything. Chlorine and pool chemicals don’t bother it, and it won’t amber in the sun.

Will it actually be cooler to walk on?
Noticeably, yes. Lighter colors reflect more heat than dark bare concrete, and the texture means less solid surface contacting your feet. It won’t be cold in August; nothing outdoors is, but it’s a real difference on a pool deck at midday.
Is it slip resistant when wet?
That’s the main reason for the texture. We build grip into the surface rather than relying on an additive alone, which matters around a pool where the deck is wet most of the time it’s being used.
